37021: | Lawler, Thomas, bass vocalist, born in |
37022: | 1818. Studied under Bianchi Taylor. Estab- |
37023: | lished the City Glee Club in 1853 ; and on his |
37024: | retirement in 1886, was presented with a |
37025: | testimonial. He was for many years a Gentle- |
37026: | man of the Chapel Royal, resigning on a |
37027: | pension early in 1887. He sang in oratorio |
37028: | in London and the provinces, and appeared |
37029: | on the stage ; but it was in glee-singing, and |
37030: | in old English songs that he was most cele- |
37031: | brated. He died in London, May 16, 1893. |
