This database of 4000 records was prepared by Simon McVeigh of Department of Music, Goldsmiths, University of London. It draw on concert adverts in daily newspapers of the period for various forms of musical performance: subscription concerts, benefits, oratorio performances, meetings of musical societies, readings and music, concerts at the principal gardens (Ranelagh, Vauxhall, Marybone). The geographical boundary is that of present-day Greater London.
