59601: | gallery were built during his period of office, |
59602: | and largely the result of his exertions. From |
59603: | 1882 a number of excellent orchestral, choral, |
59604: | and chamber concerts were given by the |
59605: | Leamington Musical Society, under his direc- |
59606: | tion ; and he gave frequent organ recitals, |
59607: | being a fine executant. He worked with |
59608: | groat zeal for the cause of the best in musical |
59609: | art, but overtaxed his strength ; his death |
59610: | taking place, June 5, 1888. He wrote a |
59611: | number of hymn-tunes, an anthem for har- |
59612: | vest, and some organ music. His memory is |
59613: | perpetuated by a stained glass window in the |
59614: | vestry of Leamington Parish Church. Walter |
59615: | Spinney, the next brother, was born March |
59616: | 26, 1852. He was articled to J. E. Richard- |
59617: | son, the cathedral organist, whose assistant |
