- Cooper, John
[E] Cooper, John, called also Coperario,
composer and viol-da-gamba player, was born
in latter part of the 16th century. He was
music-master to the children of James I., and
master of Henry and William Lawes. He
died early in the 17tb century.[W] Works. — Funeral Tears for the death of
the Right Honourable the Earle of Devon-
shire, figured in seaven songs, whereof sixe
are soe set forth that the words may be
expressed by a Treble voyce alone to the Lute
and Base Voil, or else that the meane part
may be added, if any shall affect more fulnesse
of Parts, etc., 1606. Songs of Mourning, be-
