- Crosdill, John
[E] Crosdill, John, violoncellist, born at Lon-
don, 1755. He was educated at Westminster
School, and became a chorister in Westminster
Abbey. He studied under B. Cooke and J.
Robinson. Member of the Royal Society of
Musicians, 1768-1825. Violinist in Chapel
Royal, 1777. Chamber-musician to Queen
Charlotte, 1782. Principal violoncellist at
the Handel Commemoration, 1784. Principal
'cello at Ancient Concerts, etc Married, and
retired, 1790. He died at Escrick, Yorkshire,
October, 1825.[+] Crosdill was violoncellist -in -ordinary to
King George IV., and a performer on the
violoncello of the greatest ability. A number
