Ashley, Josiah or John

[E] Ashley, Josiah or John, composer and
vocalist, born Bath, 1780. He resided chiefly
at Bath, where he was a teacher and concert
vocalist. Died at P)ath in 1830.

o'erflows with good nature; Origin of old
bachelors; Poor Joe, the marine; Poor orphan
maid, etc. Reminiscences and observations
respecting the origin of our national anthem
. . . 1827. Letter to the Rev. W. L. Bowles,
supplementary to the observations . . . 1827.
Both tracts in answer to Richard Clark's
work. In the "Bath and Bristol Magazine,"
October, 1834, the article on "God save the
king" is reprinted.
