[E] Austin, William Frank, organist and
composer, born at Lichfield, December 28,
1846. Began his career as a chorister, in Lich-
field Cathedral, and was afterwards associated
with the musical work of Rugby School, and
Trinity College, London. He took up warmly
the subject of "English Opera," upon which
he lectured and wrote. His last organ appoint-
ment was at St. Andrew's, Fulham. He died
in London, February 16, 1891. His composi-
tions include a chorus, The Crusaders; The
Gondolier ; Farewell, dear Love, and other
songs ; and a few pieces for pianoforte.entry id: 18-R-39
