[E] Ball, William, author and adapter, born
1784 ; died London, May 14, 1869. He com-
posed a nunrber of songs, and wrote the verses
of many niore, and contributed much to the
musical and periodical literature of his time.
He wrote the English version of Mendelssohn's
"St. Paul," and provided English versions for
a number of works by Rossini, Beethoven,
Mozart, Haydn, etc.
