- Lates, Charles
[E] Lates, Charles, composer, who flourished
about the end of the 18th century. He
studied under P. Hayes ; and was a candidate
for an organist's appointment at Whitchurch
in 1805. Composed sonatas, songs, etc. His
father, John James, was a violinist of some
local fame in Oxford, where he was a teacher.
He wrote chamber music. He died in 1777.entry id: 239-L-37
