Linley, Francis

[E] Linley, Francis, composer and organist,
was born at Doncaster in 1774. Blind from
birth. He studied under Mather, of Doncas-
ter, and became organist of Pentonville
Chapel, London. Married to a blind lady of
fortune. Opened music-selling business.
Became bankrupt, and was d serted by his
wife. He went to America as an organist,
but returned to England in 1799, and died at
Doncaster, September 15, 1800.

Practical Introduction to the Organ, in five
parts, London [1800] . Collection of Inter-
ludes, fugues, etc., for organ, op. G ; Thirty-
two familiar airs for 2 flutes [1790], and other
music for the flute ; Songs.
