[E] Linley, Thomas, composer, born at Bath,
1725. He studied under Chilcot and Paradies.
Conductor of oratorios and concerts at Bath.
Went to London and purchased Garrick's
share in Drury Lane Theatre, with Sheridan,
1776. He died at London, November 19,
1795. Buried in Wells Cathedral.[W] Works. — Operas and rmisical dramas :

1781 ; Triumph of Mirth, 1782 ; Spanish

Strangers at home, 1786 ; Love in the East,
1788 ; Robinson Crusoe ; Beggar's opera (new
accompaniments, etc.); Songs in "The School
for Scandal." Six Elegies for three voices
and pf., London, 1770; Twelve Ballads;
Canzonets. Numerous glees, single songs,
