- Ludwig, William
[E] Ludwig, William, bass vocalist, born in
Dublin. For many years associated with
English opera companies. Toured with Carl
Rosa's company in the spring of 1876 ; with
the Blanche Cole company in 1879; and took
the part of Vanderdecketi in the " Flying
Dutchman" in Mr. J. W. Turner's company
in Birmingham. He was in America for
some time from 1886, joining -the American
Opera Company in New York, Chicago, etc.
He has sung in concerts and operatic recitals
at the Crystal l^alace and elsewhere ; and in
1896 rejoined the Carl Rosa company, creating
the part of Hans Sachs in " The Meister-
singers," at Manchester, April 16. Also ap-
pearing at the Garrick Theatre, London,
