[E] Lupton, Rev. James, composer and
tenor vocalist, was born in York, 1799, and
died at London, December 21, 1873. Chor-
ister, York Minster. Ordained, 1824 ; and
in 1829 appointed minor canon of St. Paul's,
and of Westminster Abbey. He did much to
improve the status of the vicars-choral. He
composed church and secular vocal music.
