Machin, William

[E] Machin, William, bass singer, born at
Birmingham in 1798. He was a chorister in
Lichfield Cathedral, and on the recommend-
ation of Sir Robert Peel was appointed to the
Chapel Royal, London ; and he afterwards
sang at the Temple Church and St. Paul's
Cathedral. He sang at the Birmingham
Festivals from 1834 to 1849. Died at Hands-
worth, in Sei)tember, 1870.
