Mackay, Angus

[E] Mackay, Angus, Scottish collector, and
piper, born about 1813. He was piper to
Queen Victoria. Accidentally drowned in the
river Nith, near Dumfries, March 21, 1859.
Compiler of "A Collection of Ancient Pio-
baireachd, or Highland Pipe Music ... To
which are prefixed some sketches of the
principal hereditary pipers and their estab-
lishments," Edinburgh, 1838; "The Piper's
Assistant, a collection of marches, quicksteps,
strathspeys, reels and jigs . ." Edinburgh, n.d.
