[E] Mackintosh, John, Scottish bassoon
player, born in 1767. He played in the prin-
cipal orchestras between 1821-1885. He died
at London, March 23, 1844. Famous as one
of the finest performers of his day, and
celebrated all over Europe for the excellent
tone and style of his playing.
