[E] McSwiney, Paul, composer, born at
Cork, Ireland. In Cork, February 23, 1881,
was produced an opera, " Amergin," of which
he wrote the libretto and music. He then
went to the United States of America, and
became musical director of the New York
branch of The Society for the Preservation of
the Irish Language. He produced at Steinway
Hall, New York, December 28, 1884, a Gaelic
Idyll, " Au Bard 'gus au Fo" (The Bard and
the Knight), for solo voices, chorus and
orchestra, the book and music his own. Both
