author, born at Edinburgh in 1CB7. The
particulars of his life and date of his death
are unknown. Author of " A Treatise of
Music, Speculative, Practical, and Historical,"
Edinburgh, 1721; also London, 1730. This
work, from its scientific basis, achieved much
success, and was reprinted in an abri
form by an "Eminent Musician," in 1776
