Mansfield, Orlando Augustus

[E] Mansfield, Orlando Augustus, organist
and composer, born at Horningsham, Wilts.,
November 28, 1863. Son of the Rev. James
Pearse Mansfield. Studied music privately,
and in 1883 was appointed organist at the
Manvers Street Wesleyan Chapel, Trowbridge.
Thence he went in 1885 to Torquay, as organist
of Holy Trinity Church, an appointment he
resigned in 1895. F.R.C.O., 1885 ; Mus. Bac,
1887 ; Mus. Doc, 1890, Trinity College, Tor-
onto. Member of the Society of Authors.
Has given lectures on musical subjects, and
contributed a number of articles to the
Musical Standard, and other papers. His
compositions include a numlier of anthems,
one of which obtained the prize offered in
1896 by tlie Nonconformist Choir Union ;
hymn tunes, etc. Postlude in C ; Finale
Fugato, op. 23 (prize voluntary) ; Andante
piacevole ; and other organ pieces. Scherzino,
pf. ; Romance in B flat, op. 28, pf. and violin,
etc. Author of The Student's Harmony,
London, Weekes, 1896 ; The Student's Manual
of Pedal Scales and Arpeggi.

[+] In 1886, he married Mile. Louise Chris-
tine JuTZ, of Geneva. She is a pianist,
medalist of tlie Geneva Conservatoire, and,
in conjunction witli her husband, has given
recitals of music for two pianos.
