[E] Meller, Clara, pianist, born at Clifton,
Bristol, February 3, 1856. Studied there,
and in London, proceeding to Leipzig in
1871. There she entered the Conservatorium,
studying under Oscar Paul, and Reinecke.
She returned to England, and appeared in
concerts in London and the provinces, but
was back again in Germany in 1876. In 1880
she was married to Dr. Hermann Kretzschmar,
now University Musical Director, Leipzig.
Her professional career was not abandoned,
and she occupies a high position as a pianist
in Germany.
