Milton, John

[E] Milton, John, musician, who was born
about the end of the 16th century. Scrivener
in Bread Street, Cheapside, London, where
he died in 1646. Composed " Fayre Oriana
in the Morne," madrigal, and numerous songs
and motets in the principal collections of the
period. His merits as a musician are celebra-
ted in a short poem, "Ad patrem," by his
son, the great poet, whose works have been
set by numerous composers, like Handel,
Lawes, King, Nelson, and others.
