- Mitchell, John
[E] Mitchell, John, bass vocalist. Entered
the choir at St. George's Chapel, Windsor, in
1815, when six years of age. Sang at the
Coronation of George IV., William IV., and
Queen Victoria ; also sang at the Jubilee
Service, Westminster Abbey, June 21, 1887.
In that year Her Majesty presented him
with an engraved portrait of herself in recog-
nition of his long musical service. He
completed his 75th year with the chapel
choir. May 1890 ; and died in the Horseshoe
Cloisters, Windsor Castle. January 6, 1892,
aged 82. He was organist of Eton College
