[E] Murdoch, Alexander Gregor, minor
poet and author, born at Glasgow, April,
1843 ; died there, February 13, 1891. He
published several volumes of poetry, and wrote
a series of papers on Scots violir.ists and violin
makers, which originally appeared in the
Glasgow Weekly Mail, and were afterwards
issued as " Tlae Fiddle in Scotland: com-
prising Scotch Fiddlers and Fiddle makers,"
London, 1888. His son, William, is a violinist
of much promise.
