Nightingale, John Charles

[E] Nightingale, John Charles, composer
and organist, was born about 1785. Organist
of the Foundling Hospital, London. He
died about 1837. He issued a " Collection of
psalm and hymn tunes, odes, etc., in 3 and 4
parts," London [1824], and composed rondos,
waltzes, and arrangemexits for the pf. Also
arranged " The celebrated choruses from
Handel's oratorios for the organ " ; "A selec-
tion of overtures from Handel's most cele-
brated oratorios, arranged for the organ and
pf." He wrote some Familiar voluntaries for
the organ, which were issued in a collected
form as a Series of voluntaries, about 1855 ;
and composed Battle songs ; Indian lover's
song; Man to nran, and other songs and
vocal music.

[+] Joseph C. Nightingale, born 1822, was
an organist in Liverpool.
