Barrett, John

[E] Barrett, John, organist and composer,
born in 1674. Pupil of Dr. Blow. Music
teacher at Christ's Hospital [1710]. Organist
at Church of St. Mary at Hill, 1710. He died
at London, 1735 [1738].

Tunbridge Wells, 1703; Mary, Quet n of Scots,
1703; Custom of the Manor [1715]; Wife of
Bath. Songs: Celinda; Cruel charmer, do not
grieve me; Fine lady's airs; Gloriana is en-
gaging fair; Happy fair; In the pleasant
month of May; Liberia's all my thought;
Love is now become a trade; Pilgrim; Three
goddessses, etc.
