Phasey, Alfred James

[E] Phasey, Alfred James, euphonium
player. He was originally an ophicleide and
bass trombone player in the band of the
Coldstream Guards, and aftei wards a member
of the Queen's private band. For nearly 25
years he was a member of the Crystal Palace
orchestra. He was also bandmaster of the
St. George's Rifle Volunteers. He died at
Chester, August 17, 1888. He introduced
many improvements on, and was practically
inventor of, the euphonium. Author of
Instruction Book for the Euphonium [1858] ;
Popular Instruction Book for the Trombone
[1860] ; and composer of fantasias on operas
for euphonium, cornet, etc. His son Alfked
is also a good euphonium player.
