Porteous, James

[E] Porteous, James, violinist and composer,
was born in tlie latter half of the 18th century.
He lived at Meinfoot, near Ecclefechan, Dum-
friesshire, and was a miller on the Hoddom
Estate. He died at Annan, July 17, 1847.
He issued a " collection of Strathspeys, Reels-
and Jigs ; respectfully dedicated to Lady
Jardine of Applegarth. Arranged for the
pianoforte, violin and violoncello," Edinburgh
[1820] ; 2nd edition, 1821, in parts.
