Purcell, Henry

[E] Purcell, Henry, the elder, musician,
father of the celebrated Henry Purcell of
musical history, was born in the first half of
the 17th century. He was a Gentleman of
the Chapel Royal, in 1660, and Master of
the Choristers in Westminster Abbey. Mem-
ber of Royal Band of Music, 1663. He died
at London, August 11, 1664. Composed a
three-part song in Playford's ilusical Com-
panion, 16G7, etc.
