[E] Ravenscroft, John, violinist and com-
poser, was one of the Waits of the Tower
Hamlets, and a violinist in Goodman's Fields
Theatre. He died in 1745. He published a
collection of hornpipes, also sonatas for
stringed instruments ; also songs, such as
Foolish woman, fly men's charms [1740], etc.
