man and writer, was minister at Dalmeny,
Linlithgowshire, and died, Edinburgh, No-
vember 15, 1799. Author of " An Inquiry
into the Fine Arts...," vol. 1, London, 1784.
This volume, all that was ]Dublished of the
work, contains the " History and Theory of
Ancient and ^Modern Music."
