Rogers, Benjamin

[E] Rogers, Benjamin, composer and organ-
ist, born at Windsor in 1614. Son of Peter
Rogers, lay-clerk of St. George's Chapel.
Chorister under Dr. Giles, and lay-clerk, St.
George's Chapel, Windsor. Organist, Christ
Church Cathedral, Dublin, 1639. Gentleman
of St. George's Chapel, Windsor, 1641. Music-
teacher in Windsor. Mus. Bac, Cantab.,
1658. Organist of Eton College, circa 1662.
Reappointed lay-clerk, Windsor, 1662. Or-
ganist of Magdalen CoUege, Oxford, 1664-85.
Mus. Doc, Oxon., 1669. He died at Oxford,
June, 1698.

[W] Works. — A set of airs in four parts, for
violins, 1653. Hymnus Eucharisticus, 1660.
Evening Service in G. Services in D, A
minor, E minor, and F. AtitJiems : Behold
now, praise the Lord ; Lord, who shall dwell ;
pray for the peace of Jerusalem ; Teach me,
O Lord ; etc., contained in the collections of
Boyce, Page, Ouseley, and Rimbault. Hymns,
songs, and instrumental pieces.
