Beard, John

[E] Beard, John, tenor vocalist, born in
1716, was a chorister in Chapel Royal,
under Bernard Gates. First appeared at
Covent Garden in 1736, and at Drury Lane
in 1737. Married to Lady Henrietta Herbert,
widow of Lord Edward Herbert, 1739, and
afterwards to Miss Rich (daughter of Rich, of
Covent Garden Theatre), 1759. He was one
of the proprietors of Covent Garden Theatre,
1761. Retired from public life, 1768. He
died at Hampton, Middlesex. February 4,
1791. He composed a few songs.
