- Skene, John
[E] Skene, John, of Halyards, a Scottish
collector of the 16th and 17th centuries, who
died in 1644. He is supposed to have com-
piled the " Skene Manuscript," 1614-1620, a
collection of vocal and dance music which
was edited and ijublished by Dauney and
Graham for the Bannatyue Club, in 1838.
It contains, among other melodies, the fine
old setting of the tune usually sung to Jane
Elliott's version of the " Flowers of the
