[E] Smith, Samuel, organist and composer,
was born at Eton, August 29, 1821. Son of
Edward Woodley Smith, and brother of Alfred
Moutem and George Townshend Smith.
Studied in Chapel B,oyal under Hawes, and
also under Sir Geo. J. Elvey. Organist suc-
cessively at Hayes, Eton, and Egham ;
Trinity Church, Windsor, 1858-61 ; Parish
Church, Windsor, 1861. Composer of Psalms
and chants," London [I860]; " Selection of
