Smith, Rev. William

[E] Smith, Rev. William, Scottish clergy-
man and amateur musician, was born in 1754.
He settled in New York in 1783, and died
there, April 6, 1821. He published " Chants
for publick worship," 1814 ; and " The Reason-
ablness of setting forth the praises of God
according to the use of the primitive church,
with historical views of metre psalmody," New
York, 1814.
