[E] Thomas, Cadwallader, bandmaster, born
on November 15, 1838. Joined the ijand of
the Coldstream Guards in 1853, and became
Serjeant in 1866, at that time being solo
clarinet player. Bandmaster to the Duke of
York's School, 1870-80; and on the retire-
ment of Frederick Godfrey, 1880, wasappointed
bandmaster of the Coldstream Guards. This
he held until early in 1896, when he retired.
