Thomas, John Rogers

[E] Thomas, John Rogers, composer, and
baritone vocalist, born at Newport, Mon-
mouth, March 26, 1830. He went to the
United States, and became a teacher and
editor. He published "Church Music, a
selection of Gems from the best masters,"
New York, 1863 ; Thomas' Sacred Music, a
collection of psalm and hymn tunes, New
York, 1863. Composed " The Pic-nic " can-
tata ; " Diamond cut Diamond," operetta,
1876. Songs : After long years ; Beautiful
isle of the sea (1865) , Bonnie Eloise ; Cottage
by the sea ; Evangeline ; Pretty Nelly ;
Thine alone ; 'Tis but a little faded flower.
