Thomson, James

[E] Thomson, James, organist, composer
and teacher, born at Kendal, November 15,
1832. Studied at R.A.M. under Sterndale
Bennett and others. F. R.A.M. Has held
organ appointments at King's Lynn, Torquay,
Liverpool, and Belfast. Resident at Saffron
Walden, and Professor at the Training Col-
lege there, and at Cavendish College, Cam-
bridge. Of his compositions a symphony in
A was heard at Liverpool in 1869 ; and an
Ode to Hope (1880), and a cantata " The Lady
of the Lake, have been performed in public.
