[E] Weelkes, Thomas, organist and com-
poser of latter part of the 16th and early part
of the 17th centuries. Very little is known
about his biography. In 1600 he was organist
of Winchester College ; in 1602 he graduated
Mus. Bac. at Oxford, and in 1608 he was
organist of Chichester Cathedral. Neitlier
his birth or death dates seem to have been
preserved.[W] Works. — Madrigals to 3, 4, 5, and 6 voyces,
London, 1597; also edited by E. J. Hopkins
for the Musical Antiquarian Society, London,
1843. Ballets and madrigals to five voyces,
with one to six voyces, 1598. Madrigals of
five and six parts, apt for viols and voices,
1600. Madrigals of six parts, apt for the viols
and voices, London, 1600. Ayres or phan-
tasticke spirites for 3 voices, with a song,
a remembrance of my friend Mr. Thomas
Morley, for 6 voices, London, 1608, 3 parts.
