Wesley, Charles

[E] Wesley, Charles, organist and composer,
born at Bristol, December 11, 1757. Son of
the Rev. Charles Wesley, and iiephew of
John Wesley, the Methodist leader. He
studied under Rooke, Kelway, and Boyce, and
became a teacher in Loudon, and organist of
St George's, Hanover Square. Organist in
ordinary to George IV. He gave subscription
concerts at his house in London. He died at
London, May 23, 1834. Composed " A Set of
Eight Songs," 1784 ; " A Set of Six Concertos
for the Organ or Harpsichord " ; Anthems in
Page's " Harmonia Sacra," hymns, etc.
