[E] Bisse, Thomas, clergyman and author,
published "A Sermon preached at Hereford
at the meeting of the choirs of Hereford,
Gloucester and Worcester, in September,
1726 — ' I got me men-singers and women-
singers and the delights of the sons of men,
as musical instruments, and that of all sorts,' "
1726. Dr. Bisse was the virtual founder of
the Three Choirs Festivals, which he first
proposed at Gloucester in 1724.
