[E] Brown, William, musician, of 18th cen-
tury, was a teacher in Glasgow, and precentor
in the Wynd Church (St. George's Parish
Church), which he resigned in 1807. He com-
piled " The Precentor, or an easy introduction
to Church Music, with a choice collection of
Psalm Tunes" . . . 6th ed., 1799, originally
issued in 1776, by John McLachlan.
