[E] Allen, John, violinist, born in London,
and began his career as a leader in 1841.
Subsequently he went to America, and for
thirty years was identified with the San Fran-
cisco theatres. His four daughters, Ricca,
Ray, Louise, and Anna, are well-known dan
cers. He died at Brooklyn, New York, about
August 1892, at the age of seventy-two.
