Campbell, John

[E] Campbell, John, amateur musician, was
born at Paisley in 1807 ; died at Glasgow,
October 7th, 1860. He was a merchant in
Glasgow, and issued "The Sacred psaltery in
four vocal parts, consisting principally of
original psalm and hymn tunes," Glasgow
[1854] . He also edited " Campbell's Selection
of anthem's and doxologies, with a separate
piano accomiDaniment," Glasgow, 1848 ; and
wrote a few original anthems of mediocre
quality, some of which were once very popular
in Glasgow and neighbourhood.
