[E] Alpress H. G. Rivers, violinist, born
in Bendigo, Victoria, Australia, in 1864. He
founded the Sydney Orpheus Society, and for
some years was conductor of the Sydney Lie-
dertafeL He is now associated with the Sydney
Amateur Orchestral Society, and is heard at
the principal concerts. As a solo player his rep-
utation is very high, and his repertory embraces
the concertos of the great masters, and the
