[E] Charke, Richard, violinist and composer
of middle of 18th century. He married Char-
lotte Cibber, whom he illtreated, and from
whom he soon separated. Notable as the first
to compose medley overtures. He died in
Jamaica of disorders brouglit on by dissipated
