Clive, Franklin F

[E] Clive, Franklin F., bass vocalist of the
present day. He learnt the violin at nine
years of age, and when seventeen entered an
office in the city of London. In time his
voice developed, and gaining a Scholarship at
Trinity College, London, he studied for the
profession. About the year 1882, he was be-
coming known as a singer ; sang in the " Mes-
siah," at Birmingham, Boxing Night, 1883,
with success, and in other places. He was on
tour with an Opera Company in 1887, and
appeared as King Richard, in Sullivan's " Ivan-
hoe," at the Royal English Opera, inFebruary,
1891.
