Cooke, Henry Angelo Michael

[E] Cooke, Henry Angelo Michael. Grat-
TAN Cooke, eldest son of the above, born in
London in 1809. He studied at the R.A.M.,
1822-28, of which he became a professor. In
1837 he married Miss Kiallmark. He was
band-master of the 2nd life guards 1849-56.
In 1845 he appeared at the Hanover Square
Rooms as a tenor singer, and took part in a
glee at the Norwich Festival that year. He
lived for nearly twenty years in retirement at
Harting, Sussex, and died there September 12,
1889. He composed a number of operettas
and songs, and was a fine oboe player. Author
of " Statement of facts and correspondence
between the Directors of the Philharmonic
Society and Mr. Grattan Cooke," London
[1850] .
